Miss Jess Music

Trio Debut

The time has come, my friends. My first project since my move to Austin debuts Tuesday April 6th at Trophy’s on South Congress Ave. Raina Leigh, Jimmie Dreams and I are The Love Leighs. We have an East Coast and European tour forthcoming, but we’ll be in Austin for a little while, so catch us while you can.

I’ve been accepted to compete in the Songwriter Serenade in Hallettesville, TX the weekend of April 23rd. Come out, camp out, dig the Fiddler’s Frolic, and support me in my quest to delight the world with my ukulele song stylings.

Sign up for my mailing list for occasional updates on new releases and upcoming shows.

My debut EP, Jammin’ at Jackson’s, is available on Miss Jess. Go get you some.

Press:

www.UkuleleHunt.com: “The musicianship on it is fantastic. But they’re obviously laid-back and enjoying making music together. It’s my favourite record of the year so far. Yes, it’s better than Blood Bank. Yes, it’s better than Horehound. Yes, it’s even better than Brooke Hogan’s The Redemption.”

The Contrarian Media: “Wonderful! Old-timey Americana with uke. Lovely, honest, authentic. A pleasant surprise.”

DC Music Seen: “Her songs are about all the things you would expect from a girl who’s been referred to as “Mustang” for the majority of her life. She sings about men, rusty trucks, the country, love, desire and heartbreak.”

Ukulele Player Magazine: “Miss Jess is an energetic performer. If you don’t know her you want to spend some time checking out her MySpace page and watching her performance videos. Jess is also known as “Mustang” and after watching the videos, you’ll know why. I’ll just say this, she has the spirit of a wild horse and she can steal the heart of any cowboy when she sings him a song.”

Jammin’ at Jackson’s
My debut, “Jammin’ at Jackson’s”, was recorded in three hours on the evening of March 30th, 2009. I sat down with four of my fellow musicians, circled around a single microphone in a tall room in South Austin.

We knocked out all the songs in three takes each. None of the guys had played these tunes together before, but you can’t tell that from the recording. We did it just like they did back in the 1930s and 40s, a group of players in somebody’s living room, strumming up a storm.

It’s raw. And I sure hope you like it. It’s available for purchase (disc or download) at CDBaby.
